Intospace® and Picnic realize new distribution center in Geldermalsen

Geldermalsen, September 12, 2023 – Today at business park Hogeweide in Geldermalsen, the festive first pole was hit for Picnic’s new distribution center. The distribution center of approximately 33,000 m2 is being developed by intospace® and built by Aannemingsbedrijf Wouters Schijndel. The online supermarket Picnic is realizing its largest Fruits & Vegetables Distribution Center in Geldermalsen, where it will collaborate with partners and suppliers for fruits and vegetables once the building is completed next year.

The first pole was hit by Raymond Cohen (Picnic) and Jacoline Hartman (Alderman of the Municipality of West Betuwe) in the presence of many invited guests. In his speech, co-founder of Picnic Michiel Muller emphasized the importance of the development: “We are realizing a sustainable distribution center here at a central, strategic location, which will allow us to optimize our fruit and vegetable operation. Together with our partners and suppliers, this distribution center will allow us to innovate and provide our customers with even better quality fruit and vegetables. The cooperation with intospace® and Aannemingsbedrijf Wouters Schijndel is an important element to achieve such a great project.”

The warehouse of approximately 33,000 m2 will be built with a BREEAM 2020 certification ‘Excellent’. Intospace®’s plot is six acres in size. The building was designed by intospace® in collaboration with Archifit and will meet the latest sustainability requirements, such as circular steel.

About Picnic

Before its launch in late 2015, Picnic worked quietly for three years with a team of 30 specialists to deliver groceries at home without unnecessary middlemen. Customers choose which ride is most convenient and, through Picnic’s grocery radar, know up to the minute exactly what time delivery will take place. The cost of this new method of distribution is so low that delivery is free and groceries have the lowest price. In 2018, Picnic also launched in Germany and in 2021 in France. Picnic is an initiative of entrepreneurs Joris Beckers, Frederik Nieuwenhuys, Michiel Muller and Daniel Gebler.
